Steven Myatt is a hugely experienced magazine feature writer, and has an unmatched and innovative record in launching successful consumer magazines. His titles have enjoyed great success in the UK and been distributed to a large number of foreign territories. He was also one of the first British magazine publishers to offer titles in translation in other European countries.

Steven started his professional life sculpting and building custom motorcycles, but then went on to art college and university – where he took a vocational degree in Film and Television.

In the early Eighties, having previously worked on motoring titles as disparate as Custom Car and Practical Classics, Steven decided to launch distinctive, specialist titles for the motorcycling world. Working from his kitchen table, he started Back Street Heroes in 1983, and went on to create titles in all the two-wheeled arenas. These launches included Scootering, Streetfighters, Classic Bike Guide, and Used Bike Guide – all of which are still selling well today. His company, Myatt McFarlane plc, also bought and re-launched a considerable number of other magazines – several also motorcycling related, but in a number of other areas too.

Steven has written for a very broad range of publications – from The Daily Telegraph to Classic Military Vehicle magazine - and has always illustrated his writing with his own photography.

In recent years Steven has specialised in the creation of bookazines – one-off, high quality, single subject A4 magazines sold through the newstrade as a hybrid lying somewhere between a book and a magazine. Several examples of his work in this area can be found by clicking on ‘bookazine’ below.

Now in his mid-fifties, Steven lives with his wife, Merryn Myatt, and their family in an 18th century house in the Cheshire countryside, and also spends a lot of time at their cottage near the coast in southern Ireland. He no longer rides a motorcycle but the domestic car fleet does include a 175mph Corvette. Away from his work, Steven’s passions include fine art and historic architecture. He is a talented amateur sculptor.
